2017 Friends of the Poor Benefit
Thank you! Together, we made a difference!
A joyful noise was heard on Sunday, April 30, 2017, when more than 400 Vincentian members, their families, and friends united together to celebrate our 9th Annual Friends of the Poor Benefit at Drury Lane's Grand Ballroom in Oakbrook Terrace.
All enjoyed Drury Lane's famous champagne brunch, and our Church Choir Challenge choir contest. There were plenty of fun opportunities to help fundraise - all for the cause of doing God's work - including a silent auction, wine pull, Pick-a-Prize, HDTV giveaways, Grand Prize Car Raffle, and more.
Entertainment was provided by our Church Choir Challenge top five choir finalists from DePaul University, St. Alphonsus, St. Josaphat, St. Lambert, and St. Vincent de Paul in a friendly sing-off competition.
Celebrity judges included renowned singer Wayne Messmer (best known for the national anthem) and his wife, Kathleen, also a singer; Catholic singer and songwriter Anna Nuzzo of Shalom World Television; FOX32 reporter Natalie Bomke and her husband, Ed Swiderski, the winner on season five of The Bachelorette. All the choirs delivered incredible performances, and after a narrow margin, the $2500 top prize went to St. Lambert of Skokie. The four runner-ups received $1000. Watch performances here!
"A huge thank you to all those who helped set up a fantastic event. It was a fabulous experience for myself and the choir," St. Lambert Choir Director Chas Gualberto said.
Special thanks to all who came and supported our biggest fundraiser of the year especially our emcee, Norm Andrews, and celebrity judges who donated their time and talent; and District Council 14 Painter's Union of Chicago for helping with setup.
Net proceeds to support programs and services that will transform the lives of many throughout Cook and Lake counties. Together...we made a difference! Contributions still being accepted here.
Our patron St. Vincent de Paul once said, "Charity is the cement that binds Communities to God and persons to one another."
Grand Prize Car Raffle
Congratulations to our Grand Prize Car Raffle winner, Helen Madden of St. Athanasius in Evanston! Helen is now the proud owner of a 2017 Buick Encore from Ray Buick.
"I never thought I would win! I simply considered it a $25 donation. So, needless to say, I'm surprised and delighted," she said. Helen's $25 donation for winning ticket number 1233 was one out of 1,936 raffle tickets sold.
